It’s crunch time.
Yes, you may be trying to see everyone as they go back to their respective schools while trying to finagle extra time off with your manager at work, but what you should really be doing is crossing all your “t”s and dotting your “i”s. There is one month left til I leave for England and I do not feel ready at all.
I do not believe this is an uncommon feeling.
Whenever anyone is leaving to live somewhere else for an extended amount of time, I feel it is only natural to feel rather unprepared and nervous. No matter how much you’ve read or prepared, you’re never actually ready. It’s hard to tell exactly what a place will be like until you get there. And that is what can make it so fun (i.e. terrifying).
Now that I am less than a month out, all of the major steps to living abroad should be taken care of.
Accepted? Check.
Courses selected? Check.
Flight booked? Check.
Visa needed? Nope? Check.
Living Accommodation? Checkity check check. (FINALLY)
Now what remains is trying to say goodbye to everyone, buying weather appropriate clothes for your new home (keyword is trying as I really despise wearing pants), arranging transportation from the airport, and trying to figure out how much of your life you feel like packing up for the next 4+ months.
Now is also the time to prioritize and decide what is worth spending money on. Do I feel like spending $100 on gas to road trip and visit friends? Or do I feel like saving it and going to Paris while I’m abroad? I am very bad at this and will most likely work my booty off and try to do both.
The excitement is finally starting to kick in now that dreams are turning into reality. There has only been a twinge of nervousness as of now, but I am sure that will kick in when we are >one week til takeoff.
Until then,
–Lindsey–
